About us

The Spanish Wine Federation (FEV) is a private organization that represents the Spanish winery industry grouping 800 wineries, directly or through the main regional or sectorial associations.

Since its creation in 1978, the FEV has been working on behalf of the whole wine sector and especially for the wineries as a basic part of this sector. Now a days, it has become the first national reference in the wine field and a main driving force and representative of it all in Spain and internationally...

Mission

Our mission is "to create a legal, economic, social and environmental frame and an image of the Spanish wine-producers that can allow their sustainable growth, competitiveness and profitability".

Activities

Besides promoting the wine image as a basic part of the Mediterranean diet, FEV´s goals are to seek for the best production environment for the wineries, which includes creating a more functional and solid sector to face the strong competition of the worldwide markets.

The Spanish Wine Federation is a party in all the political decisions, acting as a representative, promoter and defence of its member's interests. It also focuses its efforts on coordinating the wineries for a better sector structuring and it raises as the prefect institutional platform from where to design and implement short and long term sectorial strategies.

FEV´s activity -focused on reaching the described goals- provides wide range of services for its members. From all this services we could enhance the newsletters on relevant news that affect the sector, the solving of inquiries and the creation of common position for the Spanish wineries.

FEV works with all types of products: still wines, aromatised wines, sparkling wines liqueur wines and other vine products. For them all, FEV works as the main mediator with the State and Regional administrations and therefore it has been recognise since 1987 as a Collaborating Entity.

Scope

In an European and international level, FEV is an active member of the Comité Européen des Enterprises Vins, CEEV (European Committee of Wine Companies), a well known European association. It also participates representing the industry in the consultative organs of the European Union related to the wine industry as well as in the expertise groups of the O.I.V. In what concerns to the promotional aspects, FEV collaborates in different levels with the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX).

The Spanish Wine Federation has been the promoter of the three following Spanish foundations FIVIN (´Foundation for the Wine and Nutrition Investigation; in the health field), 'Foundation for Culture and Wine´ and 'Foundation for the protection of  vineyards, environment and consumers´(VIMAC). It is also responsible for the creation in 2008 of the Spanish Wine Market Observatory (OEMV).

One of the greatest achievements of the Spanish Wine Federation is the intense work done for the development and creation of the new Common Organization of the Market of Wine (OCM) that came to effect the 1st of August 2009.

CSR

We must also point out the promotion done by the FEV in Spain of the European 'Wine in Moderation´: a real compromise form the sector that promotes the responsible consume of wine  and that complements as well with the " Self regulation of Wine Code" in the commercial communications of wineries.

At last, in the environmental aspect we must bring out FEV´s participation in the creation and promotion of ECOVIDRIO for the managment of glass recycling in Spain, and the creation in 2011 of Wineries for Climate Protection to reduce the gas emission of greenhouse effects by the wine industries and for ths study of influences that climate change can have on vineyard and wines.
